3 Popular Plants for Your Workspace

When it comes to picking the perfect plant for your workspace, you probably don’t know where to begin. While you certainly want something that looks great, you’ll also want to make sure it will thrive in your office’s environment.

At Kim Parker Plants, we are proud to offer a wide array of plants that will thrive in most any workspace throughout the Silicon Valley and Bay Area.

In this blog, we will discuss a few of the more popular plants that we have available to see which ones may be right for your space.

Fiddle Leaf Fig (Ficus Lyrata)

The fiddle-leaf fig (Ficus Lyrata) is an indoor tree that is very popular for a workplace setting.

It features large, glossy, heavily veined leaves that grow upright on a sleek trunk. The fiddle-leaf fig can grow anywhere from 2-10 feet tall when placed in the right environment, making it the ideal centerpiece for your workspace.

While this tree naturally thrives in warm conditions, it can grow properly in an office setting when it is maintained properly. It will need to be rotated every few weeks to provide sunlight evenly and will require water once every 2 weeks. It can also be very easy to overwater, which leads to dead leaves that will never regrow. This is why it's a great plant to have a maintenance service take care of.

Monstera Deliciosa

The Monstera Deliciosa is another popular plant for a workspace as it grows well in normal office conditions (65°F-85°F) and has a distinct look.

Nicknamed the “swiss cheese plant”, the Monstera Deliciosa features beautiful, one-of-a-kind natural holes on heart-shaped leaves. Depending on the season and maturity of the plant, the Monstera may not have holes in its leaves.

These plants can range anywhere from 12” to 24” inches and look great on office shelves, windowsills, meeting-room tables and more. This plant will grow as it should in bright indirect to medium light and will need to be watered once every 2 weeks.

The snake plant, or Sansevieria, is a succulent plant that features distinctive, upright sword-like leaves with vibrant yellow edges.

This is a popular plant for workspaces as it works well in nearly any room and does not need to be watered as often as other plants (every 2-3 weeks). While it is certainly important to water as suggested and to give proper sunlight, these can continue to grow with low light or drought and can actually be harmed when they are over cared for! If you work in a busy office, this may be the plant for you.

The snake plant is a bit on the smaller side, with a smaller plant being between 6” to 12”.
